PASKUHAN sa KAMAYAN

PASKUHAN: KAMAYAN CHRISTMAS BUFFET
When it comes to Christmas, the Filipinos out celebrates them all. As early as September, Christmas carols blare on the airwaves. Right after Halloween, department stores and malls explode with the brightest, biggest and most creative holiday décor. The official celebration starts December 16, the first day of the 9-day dawn masses, and ends on the first Sunday of January, the feat of the Three Kings.
It’s possible that the recent calamities may dampen festivities for the forthcoming Christmas season, or it could even bring about a deeper, stronger, and more meaningful observance of the season of sharing. Excessive spending may give way to expressive generosity for the less fortunate. Throughout the holidays, the one true thing that will remain constant, the only semblance of festivity that we all cannot do without will be food. The gifts will be practical, modest even, but the food; the traditional noche buena fare will be painstakingly prepared and lovingly served.
Kamayan celebrates this spirit of coming together and sharing the dishes we all love in its forthcoming Christmas Buffet festival, aptly called, “Paskuhan”. All the fervor of the holidays, a savoring of sentiments, cheered and celebrated only this time of the year.
Kamayan Christmas Buffet presents a most delectable line up of dishes: Kamayan lechon de leche, embotido, pork asado, mechadong karne, pancit molo, pusit aloha, pinaruparong isda sa bawang, sinukmani, tapioca and many more!
Kamayan buffet is priced at P335, VAT inclusive. Available in all the Kamayan branches, SM Megamall (636-3785), Glorietta III (892-8898), EDSA (726-5870), Padre Faura (528-1723) and West Avenue (413-6359).

SAISAKI's BEST

KYUJITSU OMEDETO : SAISAKI HOLIDAY BUFFET !
Slowly and surely, Christmas has now become extremely popular and meaningful holiday in Japan among the festival-loving Japanese whose gift-giving nature is indelibly rooted in their cultural psyche. The nativity story greatly appeals to little girls who are fascinated with a baby in a cradle (as Japanese babies don’t traditionally sleep in cradles).

Almost all of Western Christmas customs have been adopted by the Japanese, like exchanging gifts, Christmas Day turkey dinner although chicken is still the most popular fare. In some places there are even community Christmas trees, houses are decorated with evergreens and mistletoe and in some homes Christmas carols are sung gaily.

The Japanese god or priest known as Hoteiosho closely resembles Santa Claus and is always pictured as a kind old man carrying a huge pack. He is thought to have eyes in the back of his head. It is well for the children to be good when this all-seeing gentleman is abroad. New Year's Day is the most important day of the whole calendar in Japan. Not only are houses cleaned thoroughly from top to bottom and decorated, even the people of the house dress themselves in their finest clothes. A ritual of driving away the evil spirits wherein the father marches through the house, followed by all the family members, begin the celebration.

Every year, Saisaki celebrates Christmas in Japan with a holiday laden buffet. A festive finale of dishes bursting with flavors and colors expressing the warmth of Christmas and at the same time, welcoming all the bounty and prosperity of a new year. Spend a Japanese Christmas in Saisaki, feast on holiday versions of Ebi Gyoza, Ika Chili, Saisaki Steak, Shake Teppan, Tonkatsu, Ebi Tempura, Kani Bacon Maki, Lettuce Sarada Maki, Kaisen Sarada Maki, Crunchy Roll, Kani Aspa Chiisu Batera and much more of the Season’s best dishes.

CELEBRATE FATHER'S DAY at DADS

Mediterraneo Ultimo: Way to a Happy, Healthy Dads Day
A region so vast, the Mediterranean encompasses Morocco, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Spain, France and Italy thus melding a cuisine of unsurpassed textures and flavors. Interestingly, albeit not surprisingly, its claim to fame rests on its reputation as one of the world’s healthiest. Epidemiological studies show that Mediterraneans suffer less heart disease than people from northern Europe. Nutritionists attest that the typical Mediterranean diet reduces fat and increases the level of natural antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E, significant risk reducers of heart attacks.
This Father’s Day, the healthiest way to Dad’s heart is through his stomach if you treat him to the nutritious array of DADS Mediterranean buffet festival, an abundance of foods from plant sources, beans and grains, cooked with olive oil, the cuisine’s prime ingredient and whose health effects benefit the heart, kidney, gall bladder and the digestive system.
Rich and exquisite, the various festival dishes showcase the vibrant culinary regions that surround the Mediterranean sea from appetizers to desserts: Ottoman mussels, oven baked cheese mussels, chicken gyro wrap, chicken wrapped in soft tortilla served with four kinds of sauces, porchetta balsamico, grilled pork belly in basil, garlic and olive oil, souvlaki chicken, charbroiled skewered boneless chicken thighs, poseidon seafood bundles, poached asparagus bundle wrapped in fish fillet, souvlaki vegetables, charbroiled skewered mixed vegetables, moussaka, eggplant lasagna, horiatiki salad, Greek salad, Mediterranean cake, chocolate sponge cake with butter cream filling, Medea’s Mud Pie, delectably moist brownie topped with chocofudge and whipped cream, plus the all time favorite DADS classics, roast beef, turkey, ham, paella, callos, lengua, pastas, salads, and more.

SAISAKI "LOVE SEAFOOD" BUFFET

At the very heart of Japanese cuisine, lies the beautiful and bountiful fruits of the island nation’s seas. The Japanese consumes 66 kg of seafood annually, four time more than the world average consumption. To the Japanese, love for seafood is more than just a palate affair. It is embedded in the country’s culture, culinary and everything else. It is enshrined in the altars of the nation’s temples, worshipped as homage to the Shinto gods and goddesses. In Japan’s ancient mythology, Benzai-Ten, the goddess of the arts, love, wisdom and everything that flows was originally a sea diety. Seafood, together with all of the sea’s bounty stand for love, romantic and filial. This relationship sets the tone and taste of Saisaki's buffet festival for February, the world's month of love. Saisaki buffet, incomparable in its variety and Japaneseness, showcases the Seafood of Japan in all its sensous richness and seductive pleasures, truly a feast of love for seafood lovers.

KAMAYAN BUFFET GOES CRAZY OVER COCO !

As the world’s largest coconut exporter to the world, the Philippines boasts of an unsurpassed array of coconut dishes, quite a number of which will be featured in KAMAYAN’S COCO LOCO, the restaurant’s maiden buffet festival for 2009.
Considered as the “tree of life” for its plentiful properties and uses, this wonder fruit which is a truly a seed (the world’s largest), boasts of a history just as distinguished and colorful. The New Guineans believe that the palm tree spontaneously sprung from the head of the first man. Coco, which means “monkey face”, literally resembles one with its roundness and brown husk covering. “Kalpa Vrikaha” is the Sanskrit term for the “tree which gives all that is necessary for living”, also a fertility symbol to women who want to conceive. However, in Bali, women are forbidden to touch the coconut tree lest the fertility of the tree may be drained. In the Nicobar island of the Indian Ocean, whole coconuts were used as currency until the early 20th century.

Not true that the coconut as a cooking ingredient began and rests solely in the culinary hands of the Bicolanos for the Southern Luzon province is only one of the 14 coconut producing regions in the entire country. Fact is, one sees a coconut tree or plantation from Aparri to Jolo. Thus, KAMAYAN, the country’s foremost Filipino restaurant brings together the various popular regional coconut dishes from all over the country.

Truly a mega culinary achievement, a first of its kind Filipino buffet selection. All these in addition to the KAMAYAN all time favorites, namely, Lechon de Leche, Kare Kare, Grilled and Sizzling Choices, Appetizer, Salad and Dessert sections.
Taste the Kapangpangan’s cooking prowess with KILAWING TANIGUE SA MANGGATA (green mango gives extra spike to cocomilk thickened vinegared fish),
BISTIK LUBI LUBI (Southern Tagalo’s classic beef steak enhanced with coco milk),
Bicol’s deliciously boasts of TINUTUNGANG COCOROKOK(chicken coco dish), TINILMOK (shrimp, pork and coco meat wrapped in yam leaves). From the Visayas, comes Aklan’s PINAYUKANG BABOY (pork coco dish), Iloilo’s SINUWAANG BABOY AT BUKO (Binakol style sour soup), Samar’s HINATUKANG TARONG (eggplant coco dish) and KINAYOD NA BUTIG (yam fruit dessert).

Kamayan Buffet is priced at P335, VAT inclusive. Available in all Kamayan branches: SM Megamall (636-3785), Glorietta III (892-8898), EDSA (705-1807), Padre Faura (528-1724) and West Avenue (413-6359).

JOZU Celebrates Year 1

From the elegant play on colors and texture to the enticing aroma and mouthwatering flavors, Japanese cuisine is in a class of its own. Unique to the heritage is a distinctive style of cooking that is highly revered to be a delicate art form.

The story behind the name Jozu (meaning skillful in English), which aptly describes how the Japanese conduct their business in the kitchen, harks back to the ancient days of Japanese craftsmanship. Whether winning battles or creating dishes, the Japanese have set high standards for their blades of choice. What the sword is to the Samurai, the knife is to the Japanese chef. The kitchen experts, as demanding and exacting as their warrior counterparts, wield these culinary blades with as much perfection and skill.

With its team of Japanese chefs, Jozu brings to the table a vast selection of Japanese food ranging from perennial favorites Jozu Sashimi Tokujo, Jozu Sushi Tokujo, Kani Sushi and Futo Maki to signature dishes like Jozu Jumbo Platter, Gyu Kamameshi, Teriyakidon, Tonkatsu, Katsudon, and other grilled fare. Celebrating year one, Jozu’s evolution is ushered in by additional and new dishes showcasing Japanese fusion cuisine. The hot dishes selections aptly and collectively described Crisp on Fire boasts of vibrancy in colors and flavors. Cooled by Tranquil Water, Sushi Bar collection dazzles the eyes and taste buds with intriguing and interesting combinations.

In keeping with the restaurant’s character, the design scheme ―from the interiors down to the cutlery ―conspires to create a hip and modern dining scene that’s very much in character with Quezon City.

For your Japanese cravings, head to Jozu at 233 Tomas Morato cor. E. Lopez Jr. Near ABS-CBN Compound, QC. For inquiries call 376-6351 or 376-6352.
